The Otto

Fastaval has a long tradition of producing quality roleplaying games. During the Banquet Saturday evening the Otto Academy hands out the Otto Award, a golden penguin statuette, to the best games in the categories below, as nominated by all the game masters of Fastaval 2009.

The Otto Academy 2009 consists of: Kristoffer Apollo, Mike Ditlevsen, Jonas Harild and Peter Fallesen.

Best Scenario

Awarded to the overall best game that creates the best platform for a good playing experience at Fastaval. The scenario is judged as a whole with special emphasis on its ability to combine form and content, potential and accessibility. 

Best Narrative

Awarded to the scenario that through its roleplaying creates the most entertaining, gripping and important story. Story is here understood both as idea, content and narrative process. The judgement also considers the realness and flow of the stor.

Best Mechanics

Awarded to the scenario that best ensures that progress and interatktion in the roleplaying experience. The award covers all forms of staging, physical props, game mechanics and storytelling techniques that promotes the experience for both players and game masters

Best Roles

Awarded to the scenario that gives the players the best platform for roleplaying within the framework of the scenario and helps the players achieve co-ownership of the experience as a whole. Emphasis will also be put the whether the roles are inspiring, gripping and convincing. 

Best Conveying

Awarded to the scenario that in the most accessible and inspiring fashion conveys its material to players and game masters. The award covers text, structure, look and presentation and also how the players and game masters are prepared during pre-game as well as how this is all used during play.

Awarded the scenario that in a special fashion rises above the other scenarios. The criterion can be novel thinking, oddness, creative bravery or whatever else makes this scenario stand out. The award is given for the overarching idea or for an especially strong element in the scenario. 

Players Award
Awarded the scenario that on a broad basis gives the players of Fastaval the best roleplaying experience. The award is given solely on the basis of the feedback from the players and game masters.
